As the hype about software as a service (SaaS) and managed services continues, it’s sometimes difficult to keep track of all the startups and young companies that receive venture funding. But I just stumbled across a Web site that may help you track how investors are pumping money into SaaS and MSP start-ups. Read More >
How to Track SaaS and Managed Services Funding
DataPipe: Goldman Sachs Pumps $75 million Into MSP
DataPipe, a managed service provider in Jersey City, N.J., has received $75 million in credit and equity financing from Goldman Sachs. The company plans to use the money to expand its data facilities and enhance service offerings.
DataPipe is a bit more sophisticated than your typical neighborhood MSP. The company partners with Cisco, Microsoft, Red Hat, Sun and VMware — and dozens of other companies — and has global reach.
Goldman’s investment in DataPipe signals the continued flow of money into the managed services market. Our MSPmentor M&A Tracker has spotted nearly 20 MSP-related mergers, acquisitions and investments so far this year.
MSP Acquisition: OneNeck IT Services Buys Hosting Center
June was a busy month for managed service provider (MSP) acquisitions. And now, July is off to a fast start — with OneNeck IT Services Corp. acquiring Ensynch Inc.’s outsourced managed hosting business.
The OneNeck-Ensynch transaction is the 17th deal this year to land on our MSPmentor M&A Tracker.
OneNeck specializes in ERP outsourcing services for midsize manufacturers and distribution companies. Ensynch of Tempe, Ariz., says it sold off the hosting business to focus on professional services and staffing businesses. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
MSP Acquisition: Network Billing Systems Buys Simlab.net
June is turning into “merger and acquisition month” for managed service providers. The latest deal involves telecommunications service provider Network Billing Systems (NBS) acquiring Simlab.net, an MSP.
This is the 16th deal this year — and the sixth in June — to land on our MSPmentor M&A Tracker. Here’s a bit more on the NBS-Simlab.net combo.
Private Equity MSP Deal: GTCR Golder Rauner Invests in IQNavigator
GTCR Golder Rauner, a private equity firm, says it is investing in IQNavigator, which specializes in vendor-neutral managed service programs.
This is the second time in less than two weeks that a private equity firm has pumped money into an MSP-focused company. And it’s the latest deal to land on our MSPmentor M&A Tracker, our fast-growing list of mergers, acquisitions and investments across the MSP landscape.
Here’s more on the GTCR-IQNavigator deal, and the three-act play that I expect to see as the MSP industry both expands and consolidates.
Three More MSPs Acquired; Private Equity Investors Move In
Managed service providers remain in a buying mood, and continue to gobble each other up. And now, private equity investors are joining the action. The latest three examples: Key Methods purchased Enterprise Systems Inc.; Evolve IP acquired Lyrio IP Technology Solutions; and Wachovia Capital Partners has snapped up HostMySite in a private equity deal.
The HostMySite deal is particularly interesting, since Wachovia Capital Partners’ parent is in financial turmoil at the moment. You can follow these and other deals by reading our MSPmentor M&A Tracker, which has spotted more than a dozen managed services-related acquisitions this year.
Here’s a bit more on each of the three latest deals:
10 Managed Service Providers Acquired in 2008
The pace of mergers and acquisitions in the managed services market seems to be accelerating. Our MSPmentor M&A Tracker now lists 10 such deals this year — and we suspect there are dozens more that we’ve yet to hear about.
Give our MSPmentor M&A Tracker a look and please let us know if there are any deals we’ve overlooked or should add to the list. You can alert us by posting a comment below or by emailing MSPmentor Editorial Director Joe Panettieri (joe [at] ninelivesmediainc.com).
Admittedly, some deals listed on the M&A Tracker aren’t pure MSP acquisitions, but each deal did have a managed services component attached to it.
ePlus Buys Network Architects In Managed Services Deal
Call it a technology paradox: Even as the managed services market grows rapidly, it also consolidates through mergers and acquisitions. The latest such deal involves two Cisco Systems partners — ePlus and Network Architects — getting together to better target commercial customers.
