Former Apple CEO and Pixar CEO Steve Jobs has died, Apple has confirmed. Another great life lost to cancer. We’ve got to beat that damn disease. Apple’s official statement: “Apple has lost a visionary and a creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of you who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.”
Apple has invited readers to email their thoughts, memories and condolences to rememberingsteve [at] Apple [dot] com.
As for me, I’ll remember Jobs by unplugging and sitting down with my family to watch a Pixar movie. Yes, I admire Apple. But I think Pixar was Jobs’ greatest gift to us.

Take a look at our
Love him or hate him the world has lost a visionary.
Steve Jobs is the reason I am in this career. I remember being seven years old and walking into the Dodge City Public Library and seeing this thing. They called it a computer and it said Apple
][e on it (or was it //e).
I spent a lot of time on that machine and the IIc+ my parents bought me for Christmas when I was 9 and the IIgs I got for High School.
About two years ago in Detroit I got to meet the other Apple Co-founder Steve Wozniak and thanked him for making those Apple computers that started my fascination with all things digital. Unfortunately, I was never able to thank Mr. Jobs.
VanGuard Technologies exists because of the vision of Steve Jobs. He was an amazing human being.
Rest in Peace Steve.
Matthew Adkins (who still has that IIc+)

Matt,
I first heard about Steve Jobs in 1992 when I joined InformationWeek as a reporter right out of college. Soon after I got the chance to interview Bill Gates. I thought Gates was the smartest exec I ever met. Then one of my editors said, “You never met Steve Jobs.”
My reply : “Who is Steve Jobs?”
Twenty years later I’m still struggling to find a complete answer. Sad day.
I am going to miss Steve. He made such a difference in my life and so many others. Here’s a blog post I wrote about his impact on my life: http://www.csgsupport.net/2011/10/06/ill-miss-steve-jobs/
Scott,
Well said. We grew up on the same games. And as entrepreneurs we chase similar dreams. I think entrepreneurs are particularly blown away by Jobs because he focused on both the big picture and the insanely small details like nobody before him.

Steve Jobs was an inspiration to the Nintendo generation and is the reason that we got into computers in the 1st place. His creative genius will surely live on at Apple and will inspire generations to come.
I still remember loading the big floppy into my Apple 2e so I could make another attempt at Lunar Lander…
To try and summarize the impact Steve had on this world is like trying to explain economics to my 7 year old. If I were to sum up one of Steve’s accomplishments that impacted me the most it was his ability to lead an organization into taking responsibility for the complete end user experience. Many companies try to deliver a unique user experience (consider Starbucks, Eddie Bauer, Harley Davidson and Virgin Air), but NONE have attempted and succeeded, as did Apple, in such a challenging field as technology . With a goal to deliver a unique and valuable user experience, Apple faced a race against countless changes in technology, global trade and economics, business practices and consumer distribution methods. Apple not only embraced these changes, they usually either rode them like a surfer on a glassy wave, or often stimulated the changes themselves.
Steve’s gift to imagine, innovate and drive what we, the end users, ultimately consume as an experience was and is second to none in our generation. We in the technology services industry have much to learn and emulate from his legacy. RIP Steve.

Travis, Mark: Interesting to see how many of us “grew up” using Apple products for gaming distractions. Luna Lander = classic… though I was always more of an Atari 800 guy.
