Level Platforms Managed Workplace 2011 R2: An MSP Encore?

Fueled by strong demand for Managed Workplace 2011, Level Platforms‘ revenues are up roughly 41 percent over the same period last year. Now, Level Platforms is hoping to play an encore with Managed Workplace 2011 R2, an updated managed services software release available on-premise and in the cloud.

I haven’t directly tested Managed Workplace 2011 R2, but Level Platforms says it contains “major new capabilities” rather than basic bug fixes and minimal feature tweaks. Among the key introductions, according to Level Platforms:

  • A Service Module architecture, which allows MSPs to more closely monitor third-party modules like Symantec Backup Exec.
  • Prepackaged Network Audit functions that allow MSPs to check the state of a customer’s network.
  • An automated approach to collecting warranty information from major hardware providers like Acer, Dell, Gateway, HP, Lenovo and Toshiba.
  • Enhanced SNMP monitoring and power management capabilities.

It’s always difficult to compare and constrast the features/functions offered by the major RMM (remote monitoring and management) software providers. Many of the major RMM platforms offer a modular approach to third-party software integration. Symantec, for instance, recently leaked plans to plug into Kaseya‘s platform, which also claims to have a modular architecture.

But back to the story at hand: Level Platforms. Generally speaking, I think partners applauded the original Managed Workplace 2011 release. I’m curious to see if those same MSPs — and new MSPs — offer a similar reception to Managed Workplace 2011 R2.

Also, there are cloud trends worth investigating. Earlier this year Synnex announced plans to offer Level Platforms as a hosted cloud service for MSPs. Plus, Navisite hosts Level Platforms’ software. I’m checking to see if/when Synnex and NaviSite plan to shift to the new Managed Workplace 2011 R2 release.

Updated, 11:10 p.m. eastern, Aug. 15: According to Level Platforms CEO Peter Sandiford,

“The Level Platforms Cloud Edition operating at NaviSite was upgraded to Managed Workplace 2011 R2 last weekend.  Synnex and other cloud hosting partners will follow shortly as per their internal schedules.  All Cloud hosting partners are running Managed Workplace 2011 and all will convert to R2 quickly to ensure their partners have access to the many new features now available.”

R2 is a dream come true. Sometimes it is hard to visualize how a package as strong as MW can be improved – but Peter’s team seem to be able to dream up stuff and then deliver. Call me an LPI fan boy (been with them since beta, many years ago), but I have always been impressed how each release seems to push the bar up for the other competitors to try and follow. They are definitely an industry leader, and FAR is proud to have them as our RMM.

Osama: We’ve heard of Apple and Linux fanboys. But LPI fan boys? That’s a new one. Thanks for reading and please keep us posted as you win new customers or implement new services.

Like Osama we have been with LPI since the early days and in the delivery room as each new LPI baby was born. Whilst the team has always been brilliant and a pleasure to deal with, some of those births were complicated and had a long labour time. In the last few years Managed Workplace has started taking some big strides and 2011 R2 is sensational. The first clue to that was the deployment of the upgrade – we pressed the start button and the baby jumped right out and started dancing!! Great to see LPI getting the success and recognition their hard working people deserver.

  4. Ivan Graf Says:

We have been with LPI since early 2009 and I can say that this latest release has been the easiest to deploy. The fact that it is packed with even more great features and the roadmap moving forward continues to show even more new features has us excited to be an LPI partner!

  5. Andy Harper Says:

OK – the dust has settled on R2 and I can honestly say this product rocks. We’re automating more, doing less and reaping the benefits of LPI listening to it’s partners ideas. They have delivered the easiest upgrade yet, with a system that has enhanced capabilities and better performance across the board. Kudos to the LPI team!
