StillSecure, the network security software provider, has released its new Managed Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Service. StillSecure Vice President of Business Development Steve Harper says the service is designed for customers that need to comply with HIPAA, PCI and other security standards.
“It’s really for any business that wants an elevated level of security,” said Harper. “Healthcare companies having to comply with HIPAA for one,” he said. MFA is also appealing to merchants having to comply with PCI Security Standards. In fact, section 11 of PCI requires merchants to have a multi-factor authentication system in order to access a cardholder’s environment.
StillSecure’s MFA service integrates RSA SecureID into the StillSecure platform. Users carry a device roughly the size of a USB drive. The device has a small, flat screen that displays a new, 8 to 10 digit number every minute based on an algorithm that is synchronized with the authentication system. Users have one minute to enter the number. Once a new number appears, the previous number is invalid. The cost of StillSecure’s MFA service ranges based on the number of users. Harper said it can cost as little as $200 and as much as $3,000 per month.

Am I wrong? PCI doesn’t say you need MFA for access to the CHE, just for remote access. Also, that requirement is Section 8, not Section 11. Section 11 is about testing controls.
Eric: Thanks for your note. We’ll reach out to StillSecure to clarify which items of PCI they focus on, etc.
