Within the managed services market two key executive changes caught MSPmentor’s attention today. First, sources say Amy Luby is no longer with Synnex, which has been building a managed services platform for MSPs. Second, Ted Hulsy is making the leap from SonicWall to join eFolder as VP of marketing in July. Here’s some background on both developments.
Luby had been senior director of sales operations at Synnex, where she helped the distributor to launch a freemium managed services strategy with multiple software partners. Synnex announced the managed services push in April 2011, promoting the effort at the Varnex conference in Boston. Luby has worked in and around the channel since 1995, building MSPs and communities, and also helping vendors with their partner programs.
Sources say Luby and Synnex parted ways a few days ago. I reached out to Luby but she politely declined comment. I also reached out to Synnex for comment, but one of my key contacts is traveling today. If I hear back I’ll be sure to share more perspectives. In the meantime, Synnex does have a staff of cloud and managed services experts in place, including VP of Cloud Computing Programs Rob Moyer.
Ted Hulsy’s Move
Meanwhile, SonicWall Director of Channel Marketing Ted Hulsy is jumping into the cloud at eFolder, which offers an online backup platform that MSPs can rebrand as their own. Hulsy’s last day at SonicWall is Thursday, June 30. He’s set to join eFolder in July, Hulsy confirmed to MSPmentor.
Hulsy is well-known for helping SonicWall VARs and MSPs to develop recurring revenue hardware engagements. He has also been active in key MSP-related organizations and peer groups, including HTG Peer Groups. Once Hulsy starts at eFolder in July we’ll be back with more perspectives on his career move.

Take a look at our
Ted has been a very active and important contributor to HTG, particularly in his leadership as facilitator of our HTG vendor peer group. We are excited to see him remain in the HTG family at eFolder, and continue to facilitate the vendor group. While it is a loss to SonicWALL, it will be a great addition to eFolder and most importantly still a great resource for us as we continue to take HTG to the next level through dedicated partners and leadership from folks like Ted. Great news indeed, and thank you Ted, for your investment in the channel! Good luck in your new role!
Arlin: Well-said. I remember listening to Ted at at HTG gathering, at which he described how partners make recurring revenue off SonicWall hardware. It was an “ah-hah” moment; plenty of rival hardware companies should have taken notes.
Separately, we’ll also be watching Amy Luby’s next potential moves in the managed services market.

The ConnectWise Community team – who are all great pals with Ted – are super excited about his new role. He is the facilitator for our Vendor HTG Peer Group, and always full of great ideas and has great experience behind him. eFolder is lucky to have snatched him up. Yay Ted!

Update: Synnex Senior Bob Stegner confirms Luby has left Synnex but there are no additional changes to the Synnex managed services group.
