Zenith Infotech: We’re Staying In the NOC, RMM Business

During recent channel partner conferences, several MSPs told me they heard a rumor that Zenith Infotech is getting out of the NOC (Network Operations Center) business and/or the RMM (remote monitoring and management) business. I reached out to Zenith for comment and the company dismissed the rumors, stating that they’re firmly committed to VARs and MSPs that depend on the company’s NOC and RMM solutions. Here’s the update.

In an email to MSPmentor, Zenith Infotech CEO Akash Saraf stated:

“We know the vendor spreading this rumor. Just to set the record straight Zenith is by far the biggest vendor that is 100% MSP. Our revenues from the North America MSP channel are close to $73mn between our RMM and cloud/backup product lines. Our RMM business alone is probably bigger than 3-4 of our competitors combined. Hence the question of getting out does not arise.”

Added Zenith Infotech Senior VP Maurice Saluan:

“Zenith’s NOC service is still growing, we are managing over 500,000 devices for our partner base and it’s a $30mn+ business for Zenith. We won’t just abruptly shut down a $30mn+ business.”

To be clear: MSPmentor does not know the original source of the rumors about Zenith potentially leaving the NOC and RMM markets. We heard the rumor from three separate MSPs rather than vendors. And now, Saraf and Saluan have killed the rumors.

  1. Akash Saraf, Zenith Says:

Joe, I appreciate you taking our view on this. I find it highly irresponsible of people who have no knowledge of our business or partner base engaging in such rumor mongering. We have over 900 people working in our company solely on the MSP/SMB VAR business, out of which close to 700 are in our NOC providing support both on our RMM and our cloud and backup product lines. Our business has been consistently growing every quarter and our RMM business specifically has grown by more than 20% over the past one year and is a $30mn a year business. Being a publicly traded company, our financials are public information where you can verify Maurice and my statements, unlike some of the “rumor mongers” whose credibility and financials cannot be verified.

Akash, I just want to clarify. I’m not taking anyone’s view. But I definitely wanted to take the time to get a response from Zenith when the rumors popped up. Thanks for your time and the continued dialog.

I was at a large MSP event in the spring and asked the Zenith booth attendants why there was no RMM materials or advertising and just the SmartStyle and MirrorCloud stuff. I explained I had some concerns about rumors of the demise of RMM. The Zenith attired attendants explained to me that while Zenith was not leaving RMM, for 2011 the focus of pretty much 100% of Zenith’s R&D, support, and Development were going into those two products. Asked if there would be much in the way of improvements or even bug fixes in the RMM product and was told not until at least 2012.
I returned from the event, moved the rest of of my sites to another RMM, and haven’t looked back. Zenith was great for my basic RMM needs, but I feel more comfortable using vendors that can focus all of their energies on their core product.
I applaud Joe for putting to rest some of the rumors as us MSPs cannot make good decisions without good,, factual information.

I haven’t heard this specific rumor, but as a Zenith customer of 5 years, I’ve definitely come to opinion on my own. We’ve seen practically ZERO INNOVATION from Zenith in the RMM world. When we implemented on Zenith we really liked the product and thought they were way ahead. We were excited to work with an “innovator” in the market. We expected to see them grown the RMM platform with additional features to drive down our operational costs. We haven’t. The last 2-3 years have all been completely around other products and the rest of the RMM market as caught up to (and surpassed) the Zenith feature set.

With that, I’m still a big fan of the Zenith product, sounds contradictory I know. 2012 for new features?? That will be too little too late for them to keep my business. I’d like to get their direct opinion on that, in fact I’ve been asking for an update on their RMM platform for a little over 2 months and still waiting.
