Backup My Info! — with a name like that, you can guess their market — enhances their SMB play with the announcement that their fully managed, namesake online service has expanded operating system and application support. This is the latest in a flurry of backup-related news that we expect to surface today. Here’s the scoop.
The new version of the Backup My Info! (BUMI) agentless backup solution now allows administrators to backup and restore VMware environments, remote machines not connected to the network, as well as most versions of Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Apple OS X, according to the press release.
Application-wise, BUMI now supports backing up Microsoft Exchange 2010 using VSS Writers integration and backup and restore for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP2, Microsoft SharePoint 2007 SP2, and Lotus Domino/Notes. The goal, BUMI says, is to make it easier for the IT world to store and recover data offsite in complex, multi-platform environments.
Meanwhile, technology companies continue to connect the dots between backup software and various MSP software platforms. Earlier this week, Vembu said its backup software now integrates with ConnectWise, thePSA (professional services automation) software platform. Also, there are signs that the freemium trend will soon come to the MSP backup market. We expect to share details later today.
