Across Australia and New Zealand, hundreds — perhaps thousands — of IT service providers are joining managed services user groups and attending local MSP-centric conferences. The latest examples involve Autotask and Kaseya. But the examples don’t end there. Here’s an update.
Autotask, as MSPmentor has reported, is hosting a multi-city tour across Australia. The company also plans to open an office in Australia, according to a Reseller News report. Plus, there are signs both Autotask and Kaseya will continue to work more closely with Ingram Micro in Australia, according to that same Reseller News report.
Meanwhile, a new Kaseya user group in New Zealand has scheduled its inaugural meeting for September 10. Kaseya CEO Gerald Blackie is set to attend, according to another Reseller News report.
Looking Back and Ahead
Generally speaking, I think Kaseya was the first major MSP software company to establish a firm foothold in Australia. But more recently, most of the major RMM (remote monitoring and management) and PSA (professional services automation) software providers have been hosting events, opening offices and/or partnering up to penetrate the Australia market.
At the same time, HTG Peer Groups has been organizing IT service provider groups in Australia. Now here’s the interesting part: Generally speaking, most HTG Peer Group members have standardized on ConnectWise‘s PSA software. So it’s safe to expect HTG and ConnectWise to gained user group momentum in Australia. I think it’s also safe to say ConnectWise has the largest MSP-related user groups in North America and we’re watching to see if that trend repeats itself in Australia.
Either way the message is clear: IT service providers are eager to get organized and share best MSP practices in Australia and New Zealand. And multiple vendors are stepping up to fill that void. Also of note: The MSPAlliance has held events in Australia to help promote shared learning between MSPs.

Take a look at our
JP – ConnectWise hosts its “LAN Down Under” user group meeting 3x per year along with our other 8 regional US, Canadian and UK groups. Our last meeting was end of August, and had 125 of our partners sharing best practices, ramping up on ConnectWise and collaborating together. We see that trend continuing right into 2011…the momentum for MSPs in the ANZ market is fantastic. j.

Hey Jeannine: Thanks for the stats. Let us know as more ANZ meeting dates are confirmed. In the meantime, I’ll be blogging really soon with an update on a major MSP merger in Australia… Definitely a market/region worth watching.
Joe,
I’m just about to wrap up a 13 day tour of Australia, my fourth trip in 9 months. Taylor Business Group is putting on our workshops, our Business Improvement Groups, and taking on direct one on one consulting clients. It has been amazing to learn the similarities and differences in the approach to managed services and what impact global economies, exchange rates, and bandwidth availability have on the solution provider in Australia and New Zealand. So far we’ve been warmly received. We should have our second Business Improvement Group formed in the next 30 days and with the help of a yet to be named partner, we should have 3rd and 4th groups quickly following. Glad you’re keeping an eye and reporting on events down under!
Josh,
Please keep us posted as the user groups form. And let us know about trends within the user groups. Australia represents MSP’s third-largest geographic readership, and it continues to grow…
