LogMeIn Refreshes iPad and iPhone App

LogMeIn, which provides remote access to computers across the Internet, has updated their LogMeIn Ignition iPhone and iPad app. Is the $29.99 finally worthy of the price tag? Read on for the updates and details.

Here’s the quick rundown. There’s a new hybrid controlling and interacting approach. It uses the iPad’s touch display, blended with a point-and-click control, to naturally interface with windows. LogMeIn says that this helps the native desktop OS interaction feel like it was made for multi-touch. There’s also new gesture-triggered swiping to switch between monitors and overall desktop monitor view, plus a new in-app search to provide easier access between computers.

LogMeIn has YouTube videos here. If you already have the existing software, you’re in luck, since the new upgrade is free.

But what’s the bigger picture here? LogMeIn says that the support and demand for the in this “large user base” is fueling their continued development. They also claim that the iPad is replacing traditional road-warrior computers because of the success and usefulness of the tablet.

That might be a wake-up call to MSPs or just the industry in general. This solution has potential, and it works. Maybe more companies should be jumping on the remote-tablet bandwagon? It’s certainly a climbing trend.

In the last 2 months we are getting 2-3 requests a week from high level employees requesting remote access to their office and the logmein solution seems to be the easiest and best solution.

However if you are using Zenith as your RMM solution you are locked out of the Logmein ignition solution on your iPad and iPhone for your customers at this time. Saying no to the customer is not a long term solution.

Michael: Let me know if you’d like me to track down a comment from the most appropriate vendor. I don’t run the software you’re discussing so I’m not in a position to agree or disagree with your comment. But I can get a comment for you.

Joe, if you could track down a comment from Zenith Info tech on this it would be great. I have had correspondence with Zenith myself and they are not understanding the problem.

To explain a little further; Logmein offers Logmein Ignition for the iPad and iPhone which enables connectivity to a free or paid logmein acct signed up directly thru Logmein.

Zenith integrates Logmein in their offering for remote support of desktop and servers. When the Zenith agent is installed an integrated logmein acct is included. The integrated logmein acct from Zenith does not allow the Logmein ignition iPad app to connect to the integrated Logmein acct.

Zenith needs to divert a little energy back to it’s core MSP business and support logmein ignition. Or maybe it’s time for Kaseya or Labtech.

  5. Joe Panettieri Says:

Michael, Alex: I will check in with Zenith Infotech to see if the issues you describe have been resolved.

Hi, old thread – but the reason you can’t use Logmein Ignition with Zenith is that the Logmein account that Zenith installs on to the clients computers – It is not *your* account, it is their “super account” – so there is no way they would give you the Logmein password to every single Logmein account out there :-)
Which is a shame, as Zenith for me has the best monitoring package out there, but not being able to use Ignition was a show-ender for me.

    Jules,

Thanks for taking the time to explain the potential technical hurdle. I don’t have hands on-experience with the issue so I can’t confirm if your info is accurate. Assuming it is, I appreciate you sharing the tidbit with our readers.

P.S. – In the world of comments and blogs, everything old is new again ;-)
