Famed Italian fashion house Roberto Cavalli has chosen to migrate their employees to the Google Apps cloud productivity suite — bringing them estimated infrastructure cost savings of a stylish 40,000 Euros (that’s about $52,000 USD) per year. Here are some quick details.
In a Google Enterprise Blog post, Carlo Di Biagio, Cavalli’s Group Chief Operating Officer, explains that the company was looking for a solution that could bring all their communications systems under one metaphorical roof. After surveying the market, Di Biagio writes that they decided to go with the Gmail messaging solution.
The next phase of their Google switch was the deployment of Google Apps Premier edition, giving the fashionistas the ability to easily share documents, presentations, and video. Di Biagio says that Cavalli routinely deals with catalogues, picture archives, and the like, and so having a browser-based solution that doesn’t slow down the local machine to access is a huge boon.
Cavalli’s Google future entails using Google Sites to set up an intranet to organize, share, and search entire picture archives amongst Cavalli’s employees and remote boutiques. And Google Video for business will enter use as a way to get catwalk videos to Roberto Cavalli boutiques across the world, he says.
