Synnex, in a potential competitive move against Ingram Micro Seismic, has tapped former MSP Services Network (MSPSN) CEO Amy Luby to assist the distributor’s managed services efforts. The initiative also involves itControl Solutions Inc. Here are some preliminary details.
First, a bunch of background:
- Synnex has been working with itControl Solutions (maker of itControl Suite) since at least August 2008. At the time, Synnex was launching SYNNEX On Demand Service — which included On Demand Field Services, On Demand Managed Services, On Demand Edge Services and On Demand Professional Services.
- Amy Luby is well-known in MSP circles for launching MSP Services Network, a company she recently sold to High Street Technology Ventures. Luby remains on MSPSN’s board, but sources say she is assisting Synnex’s managed services efforts on a part-time basis.
- Luby has extensive experience with itControlSuite, having leveraged the platform within MSP services Network.
- A side note: Synnex Senior VP Robert Stegner recently joined CompTIA’s board of directors. That could mean Synnex plans to more aggressively promote its MSP offerings to CompTIA’s channel membership.
I’ve got emails into all the key players about Synnex’s next managed services moves. Sources say the efforts include new NOC and help desk offerings. Also, I’m catching up with current MSPSN CEO Gerard Kane the week of January 25 for an update on that company’s business strategy.
The bigger question: Can Synnex compete effectively with Ingram Micro Seismic and other Master MSPs? I must concede: I haven’t heard much from the Synnex team. But I also have to do a better job reaching out to them pro-actively. I’ll share more perspectives as sources get back to me.
