Seven Managed Services Blogs We Didn’t Write: Dec. 11

I’m seated in Starbucks, waiting for a train from Manhattan to Long Island. Another day of channel chief and MSP meetings is nearly over. Plenty of news to share next week. In the meantime, here are seven managed services blog entries MSPmentor didn’t have time to write for the week ending Dec. 11.

7. New Flavor: Spiceworks 4.5 (the company’s 17th release in less than 4 years) apparently launched this week. The company claims Spiceworks is the most widely deployed IT management software in the world, with more than 830,000 business users.

6. Big November: In separate conversations, Ingram Micro Seismic VP Justin Crotty and ConnectWise COO Santo Cannone told me their companies had record Novembers. New business revenue at ConnectWise exceeded previous monthly records by 15 percent, and Ingram Micro Seismic signed up a record number of VARs and MSPs.

5. Another Security Move: I hear Sophos, the privately held anti-virus and endpoint security specialist, is preparing a formalized managed services effort for channel partners. Some of the chatter, involving Sophos Channel Chief Chris Doggett, leaked out on our sister site, The VAR Guy.

4. Going Local: The MSPAlliance is preparing a 10-city MSPWorld Congress tour. It’s pitched as “the only UN-channel event for MSPs.” Hmmm….

3. New Zip Code?: I’m thinking of renting a place in Toledo, Ohio. Lots of MSP chatter their lately. I’ll explain more later.

2. Last Call: Our third-annual MSPmentor 100 survey closes tonight (Dec. 11, 2009). Thanks to those who have participated so far. The complete MSPmentor 100 list and research report will debut in Q1 2010.

1. Keeping It Real: It’s been an intense year for all of us. Take a few minutes at work next week and goof off. Ask how your peers are doing. Steal a page from the folks at Five Nines Technology, a fast-growing MSP. They kept it real this week…

That’s all for this week’s list. Thanks for reading.

If you ever come to Buffalo you will see lots of people sledding on the roads as they often forget how to drive in the snow..

    Joe,
Thanks for keeping us updated – even though you dont have the time to write a detailed synopsis.

These “Quick” updates are sometimes my favorite, as I dont have a TON of time myself….
