Good article Joe. Our research indicates that a significant portion of the MPS engagements continue to be driven directly by vendors as opposed to through the channel. However, as the market continues to shift from being enterprise focused to expand into the SMB - Mid-market, the channel will play an increasingly important role. The question is, will it be traditional 'copier' (BTA) dealers, MSPs', supplies resellers, or IT VARs/Resellers be the dominant channel for MPS?

It doesn't surprise me only 26% MSP are getting into Managed Print. The number seems a little high. However, when you look at printer resellers and the BTA channel the percentages are very, very high. We have been funding MPS deals since 2003 and it is becoming a big part of our business. I don't think it is hype, in fact it should be higher on an MSP target list. MSP have home field advantage because they own the network and MOST things attached. So why not control the output devices as well. With that said, the copier channel is very savvy at getting devices under contract and the MSP should keep an eye out Managed Print BTA dealer. Thannks!!
