John: On the broader MSP implications, it looks like Rackspace, Savvis, etc. are moving upstream with managed services to challenge IBM, HP and other traditional outsourcers for enterprise business, while aiming the cloud at smaller single-server customers (where they will compete with Amazon). Seems to me this leaves room in the middle for other MSPs to operate. Are niche marketing and narrow vertical market specialties the way to prosper here? From what I've seen of the larger hosting firms, they tend to pursue rather broad sectors: government, financial services, etc.

Chris: We moved one of websites over to Rackspace Cloud in October. We've experienced a few bumps but I don't think it's fair to judge a company on two weeks experience. I'll share more feedback at the close of 2009. Keep us posted as you continue to build the JoomConnect business.

I forgot to mention, they offer awesome white label reseller features, automated billing etc. Worth checking out. We don't white label it, we let everyone know we use Rackspace and we are proud of it.

We have been using the Rackspace Cloud since they first began and it was called Mosso. (Mosso was an off shoot from a couple of Rackspace employees and then assimilated by Rackspace).

There have been some rocky moments. It's gotten a lot better. Their cloud is perfect for CMS apps like Joomla, it's configured perfectly right out of the box. I know we have pushed back on them hard and they listen!

Our add-on for ConnectWise (JoomConnect) uses the Rackspace Cloud for our JoomConnect SaaS offering. We've been very pleased. We manage about 175 websites; we have moved 70 of them to the cloud so far. We setup all new sites on the cloud as well.

The rest of the sites we manage are still with Rackspace in their dedicated servers data center. We will continue to migrate to the cloud and expect to be done sometime in Q1 of 2010.

They are a top notch company.

The growth of companies like Rackspace, Terremark and Savvis all have implications for the broader MSP community. What are your thoughts on this?
