This just in: Ingram Micro Seismic, the distributor’s family of hosted services for VARs, signed up 52 new partners in September — the largest single month for net new partners, according to Ingram VP Justin Crotty.
“October numbers may tell a different story when they come in but Sept was strong,” says Crotty.
Ingram Micro Seismic is among the industry’s highest profile Master MSPs, which host services for other managed service providers. Roughly 20 percent of MSPs are shifting to the Master MSP model, according to our ongoing MSPmentor 100 research.

It doesn’t surprise me to hear that 20% of MSPs are shifting to a master MSP model; I expect that number will continue to grow pretty rapidly as the industry starts to shake out a bit.
Master MSP is a pretty loosely-defined word at this point, so it will be interesting to see what models help these providers find success in the marketplace.

One small clarification: 20% of MSPs “claim” they are shifting to the Master MSP model. I think a lot of MSPs are giving the model a look. Whether they’ve introduced such services — or profit from such services — is another story.
While Do IT Smarter and Ingram Micro Seismic have been Master MSPs for quite some time, most other companies are newbies to this effort.
