Things are certainly tightening up. In a bad economy, AR begins to drag and sales cycles slow down. That can mean cash trouble. Another impact on us un Atlanta is the gas shortage, which impacts the ability to deliver onsite services.

Stu: Thanks for providing some perspectives. I don't want to press the panic button in this industry. Nor do I want to appear to be raining on the MSP parade. But I think it's healthy to have open discussions like this where MSPs can continually think -- and re-think -- their financial strategies.

Cisco CEO John Chambers often talks about the regular "5 percent course corrections" he takes to move Cisco a little to the left or a little to the right with its business strategy each quarter. And he makes those course corrections during healthy economic times. Imagine how often, now, he is considering the impact of world markets on Cisco's business.

I suspect the story is the same for many small businesses as well.

I'm seeing the effects already as most of my funders have tightened up a little on me, enough to be noticeable and affect business some but not to a crippling degree. Approvals are down all across my industry. There is lots of potential room to move downward there and have an even tougher effect on SMB's looking to finance or lease than where it is now.
