When I mentioned the clear connection between digital signage and managed services back in February 2008, a lot of readers said “tell me more.”
Since that time, Cisco Systems has introduced an academy of digital signage, to help solutions providers master content creation and distribution over digital signage networks. And now, C-nario on June 18 will introduce a managed digital signage service for North American MSPs.
Digital signage can carry a range of localized, rotating content — from in-store menus to local real estate ads and even news feeds. The LCD or plasma screens require carefully managed content that’s pushed from centralized servers out to the screens in remote retail stores. The screens often include thin-client technology to accept the content feeds.
However, many retailers (such as coffee shops, fast-food chains, etc.) have yet to deploy in-store digital signage because LCD and plasma screens have been cost-prohibitive until recently.
Still, there’s real momentum for digital signage. C-nario says its digital signage technology is already deployed in 26 countries.
