I feel the challenges and complexities of delivering email and collaborative services within a ITIL and secure environment will drive many sub 500 user organisations to adopt exchange as a SAAS solution. The challenge for the SAAS provider is to come up with a simple but comprehensive framework of pricing the solution which considers security, ediscover, regulator requirements, BCS and availability as deliverables but still being able to really support a multi-tenancy service model. It will be good to watch how this segments matures.

James: Just to clarify ... Microsoft is expecting half of "new" deployments to involve SaaS, rather than half of the overall installed base to be SaaS.

Half? That sounds a little too optimistic to me. Lots of companies will want to maintain exchange on site. And they won't want their data managed off site.

I think hosted exchange will enjoy good growth but I can't imagine half of the market being there anytime soon.
