Looks like there already is a company offering a platform that enables MSPs to sell managed Linux desktops. They also have a cool client install CD that turns one computer into ten.

Ubuntu would be the LAST...ok 3rd choice for my business. Why? Ubuntu has NO enterprise support mechanism. Without enterprise support for my mission critical systems (all of them since they support my business) I would never consider them. Redhat and Novell's SUSE Linux would be my first choice. In addition, the enterprise providers (Redhat and Novell's SUSE) have a 5-7 year lifespan of support.

Much better choices for enterprises.

Open source and managed services will continue to converge. Companies like Untangle are pushing their open source technologies into the MSP space. More will surely follow.
